Lawn Hill Part 3 and Onwards

We had to be out of our campsite so we moved the van and parked so we could go on a hike to the Lower gorge. The path was interesting as you went through really different areas, one part looked like it was out of a Peter Jackson movie, very dark and huge tree roots with a lava type rock. There was also Aboriginal rock drawings dating over 3000yrs and then the lower gorge.
We were treated to seeing 2 fresh water crocs sunning themselves, you are not allowed to swim or kayak here.

After our hike and lunch we decided to head off and drove back through the gravel roads to Burke and Wills Roadhouse. This is named after 2 intrepid explorers and now is a thriving road house at a 3 way crossing in the middle of now where but always busy. You can stay there in the dusty carpark overnight too!! We travelled on to Cloncurry and then a nice campsite at Clem Water dam which was much more picturesque and quieter. Our next stop would be Mt Isa to re stock on groceries and then on to Tennant Creek so we will have a few days of long drives. We are heading to the Katherine region where there are more National Parks and plenty to see. As this country is so big it does require some long haul driving to get there but so far we are not bored with the outback. I think it helps sharing the driving too. The other factor that helps is the wonderful weather we have been experiencing. We have only had one bad day with rain, wind and fog since leaving Brisbane over 3 weeks ago, otherwise all blue skies and warm, Love it!!!
