Uluru - Feb 1 2015

We were continually looking for our first glimpse of Uluru as we drove towards it and it was not disappointing, although the photo does not do it justice even from such a distance it looks impressive.
We booked into the campground at the Ayers Rock Resort for 3 nights on a powered site for the first time since we were in Perth as we figured we might need some cooling power.
The place was just about empty with less than 6 vans .It was a very hot 41 deg and the caravan was very hot inside, even the floor from travelling on the hot roads.
This then required Lloyd to have a good look at the air-conditioning as we hadn't bothered before. With some adjustments it was pumping out cold air and we closed everything up to get the temperature down. Magic now I was very happy as sleeping would be not a problem, the noise of it would be music to my ears!
We had arrived quite late in the afternoon and because of the heat the clouds had built up in the afternoon so we decided to leave the sunset watching on Uluru until the next night.

First sight of Uluru
Sunset over the Olgas

However the clouds did mean we got a stunning sunset over the Olga range which is out to the west. We intended to get up at 5 am to see the sunrise on Uluru so an early night was needed. It was a beautiful sight to see the reflection and shadows appearing on the huge rock. It was 6.30 am and there were probably over 100 people there to watch. This is the off season for tourism in this area so I can imagine 100s more in the peak. It is a very majestic sight.
