We continued our drive up the Stuart Highway and stayed the night at Cadney Station Roadhouse. This was near the entrance to the Painted Desert which was about 100kms inland off the highway. We had a nice evening and a swim in the pool as it was hot of course and the next morning left the caravan there and drove very early in towards the Oodnadatta track .
Mount Arckaringa was created over 80 million years ago and the multi hued terrain is the effects of erosion on the residue from a ancient inland sea and the leaching of the minerals in the soil. The drive was great, Lloyd really enjoyed the 4wd driving as in parts it was winding and and had loose sand type dirt. It was a short walk up from where we parked the car to the top ridge where we could view the mountains.
