MONDAY 5 2014

MONDAY 5th MAY 2014

This morning we awoke early (before 7am) and were ready to have a fun day. First we had to find a breakfast place and then organise our phone and get some money. Breakfast was had in a great french bakery. A pastry/croissant and coffee which was not so good for the waistline but tasted wonderful. We then headed for the Apple store and decided to walk as it did not open until 10am. They sent us downstairs to the cellphone  kiosk and we were able to get the phone sorted. Our Canada nos is 604 3389322, This is obviously for emergencies, we have been using viber with the boys which is free and works well.
The day was rather chilly about 10deg but no rain.

Statue of Gassy Jack in Gastown near the waterfront. The area has been rebuilt.

We did have some problems trying to get money out of the ATM with our cash passport. This resulted in about 2 hrs of wasted time as Lloyd put it but after a call to them we managed to find a ATM that finally was able to oblige and give us money. Oh the modern problems of travelling.
We then headed for Gastown which was interesting. We had a good chat with a couple we had meet the day before from San Fran. They were having there first 2 week holiday together in many years as in the States it is very difficult to get 2 weeks holiday at once in certain jobs. They reckoned we were having a practice retirement holiday!!
Our next stop was Stanley Park or visiting the family estate as Lloyd put it as his mother is a Stanley and there could be a connection.
It is a beautiful park right in Downtown. The day had now turned warm 16deg and clear skies so great for a bike ride. We hired Cruiser type bikes and headed off around the seawall. It was stunning and was very easy riding but after a long day it was time for home.
