Darwin Museum and Art Gallery

You always learn alot about a place by visiting the local museum and this was certainly the case in Darwin.
The museum was well laid out and plenty to see, we loved seeing all the shells, birds, spiders etc that could harm you, there are so many!
There was a huge area all about Cyclone Tracy which devastated  the area on Christmas Day 1974, it looked like a bomb had dropped.
However most of all I enjoyed the art exhibition by Danie Mellor called Exotic Lies Sacred Ties. It surveys 12 years of his work and shows his versatility as he uses many mediums such as pencil, pastel, ceramics, acrylics, crystals, print making.
His theme is indigenous Australian art and the relationship between indigenous and non indigenous  cultures by using imagery from the 18th  and 19th centuries which he layers. I found it fascinating.
This is huge, there are 9 panels. Its called Bayi Miyjirral 2013

Here is a link if you want to see more en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danie_Mellor

We had to include this weaving as it is a Toyota, its a bit of fun!
