Albany Part 2

The drive into Albany was about 22kms from Cosy Corner through farm land very much like NZ. Albany is the oldest settled town in Western Australia and has been able to keep their old historic buildings.
It had a really nice feel about the place, the harbour is where the ANZACs left for Gallipoli in 1914, they just had the 100 year commemoration earlier this month where 1000s of people gathered to celebrate it.
There are a few places that celebrate the leaving of the ships, Mt Clarence as there is great views over the harbour. has a huge ANZAC memorial. Evidently they all lined up in rows before they sailed out and there were hundreds of locals to wish them well, there were 40,000 NZ and Aust troops  and 17,000 horses that left on those ships which of course many never returned.
No wonder Albany has such a connection with the whole ANZAC thing.
There were still wreaths from the 100 yrs celebrations, note the NZ flag!

The harbour where the ANZAC conveys left
The lone red poppy!
