Have you ever heard of Stromatolites ?
We never had until we went to Hamelin Pool which is in the Shark Bay area. It is one of only 2 places in the world where living marine stromatolites exist. These rocky lumps in the water are the oldest and simplest forms of life on the earth dating back t 3.5 billion years.

| There is a boardwalk over the stromatolites so they don't get damaged |
The water in Hamelin Pool is twice as saline as usual salt water due to sea grass banks situated across the bays entrance .The stromatolites are built by microbes and as predators cannot survive in this water they flourish and grow at a rate of 0.3mm each year and some are over a metre high.

The Hamelin Pool Telegraph station is the nearest campsite and is a interesting collection of old relics , we did stay there the night and I did enjoy there spotlessly clean swimming pool! It was a very dusty place !!!!
